To be fair, I agree with Prim and others that the occasional big stompy robot is acceptable. Tau are a fine example of an army where a BSR could find a happy home. The riptide is the BSR I find most acceptable, both aesthetically and in terms of fluff. But, I also completely agree with PVs point that they should have AV. Giving them wounds is pure rules writing for sales purposes.
Also, 40k has never had titans. Apoc and epic have titans. 40k is a small scale game. At least, it used to be. If GW hadn't killed epic they could have pitched it as a "so you want to play BIG?!?!?" option for 40k players looking to expand. Instead of a player buying 100quid worth of 40k super heavy, they'd be buying 2-300quid of box game, army book, and a bajillion wee men, plus legions of tanks, titans, etc. But nooooooo they had to keep things as simple and short term as possible. "Hey! New player! Buy alla this stuff! Ok good! Now bugger off and don't bother us again."
Getting fed up with ranting about GW now, so I'll say something nice about em instead. The new Wraithguard kits are very well engineered kits. Lots of spare bits, and they go together sooooo neatly. I'll moan about GWs attitude to gaming till the cows come home, but I can't fault their technical skills. Incidentally, (and entirely unsurprisingly) the new Wraithguard are about a head taller than the old ones. Because BIGGER IS BETTER!!!
