Vampire counts rumored for January release.

Rejoice or despair.
Official Rumour Thread: New Vampire Counts Book

Hi,

As some of you have heard, there are more and more rumours that VC may be getting a new Army Book around January 2012 time. Hence (as suggested by Anubis) hereafter referred to as Vampuary

Whilst there was another thread created to discuss it, the discussion took an...ah....indepth twist. Therefore I have created this thread to be CN's official repository for the rumours.

Please post up and information or rumours you find (including updates at Warseer). Myself or mods (mods feel free) will update this first post as we hopefully receive more reliable info.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Info - Last Updated 11th October 2011

Suspected Release Date
January 2012

Rules
Possibility of return of Bloodlines in some fashion. Heavy emphasis in previous WD, plus production of new vampire riders (for Terrorgheist / ZD) fitting Blood Dragon / Strigoi rather than the previous Carstein theme suggests this. Not confirmed in any other way as of yet though.

Characters
Krell
Heinrich Kemmler – whilst there has been no substantial rumours on this, Krell has never been produced without Heinrich, so highly likely he will be making a comeback as well.
Female Vampire – Possibly Lahmian
Banshee – likely to be retained due to recent introduction in WD
Wraith - likely to be retained due to recent introduction in WD

Units
"Flesh Golems" – a monstrous infantry option, said to be unlike any other monstrous infantry in Warhammer. Looks to be a cross between a Ghoul and Zombies all stitched up, hunched over. Also possibility that they will be mounted / ridden / pulled by Zombies or Spirit Hosts.
New plastic coach model (Dread Coach?). Is said to be a dual kit model, making a coach and something else which has not yet been defined. Has been said it is not a siege engine though. Unconfirmed whether the coach variant is the Black Coach, or a whole new coach type unit. Either way, the Black Coach is rumoured to be retained, if the new kit is not this unit it may just keep its existing unit.
New plastic cavalry models. Said to be dual kit, however no information as to what type of units for yet. Highly likely one variant may be existing Black Knights, and it is rumoured there is a new cavalry unit that the other variant is for.
There are said to be 5 new units in total, there are possibly 3 or 4 above (coach kit may be two new unit types), so possibly another 1 or two units we have not yet heard about.
Terrorgheist - likely to be retained due to recent introduction in WD

Might be, GW is making use of Storm of Magics "pact" with the undead and deamons with a boost in sales by giving VC a new book. No, it doesn't really make sense rules wise that VC gets a revival, and wood elfers and brettonians will doubtless cry foul but it makes sense from a sales perspective. Most VC armies, while quite effective, usually only employ ghouls and graveguard, and the rest of the entire range can get buggered.

List of cool but pathetic models from VC that GW can't make money off of:

Skeletons - One of my favorite GW kits, but for 8 points a model for a stat line inferior to a goblin .... not worth the the power dice to raise - even beyond starting unit size.

Zombies - perhaps the worst sculpt they ever did. Can only rank up if you don't glue there arms on. Anybody gonna tell you Mantic got the better zombie... and by jove so much cheaper too.

dire wolves, fellbats, bat swarms - LOL don't count toward minimum core requirements, therefore いらない.

corpse cart - shame because its a very novel miniature. Great for unit filler (what I use mine for) other than that, beyond useless.

Vargulf - terrorgheist is infnitely better for a 20-30 point increase in cost... or is it 50, can't remember.

Black coach - old and metal - yuck.

Black knights - old and metal - might as well spend the points on more grave guard.

God, I hope not.
Not all VC players play that way, only a certain group who likely play a razorback army for 40k.
I like how the terrorgheist is only likely to be retained. Wouldnt that just be a kick in the teeth. Since GW take ages to make new books, surely they didn't need to do an article in WD as they would want to tie in a big kit with a new book.
Lets see some older armies get some love first eh, besides, there are rumours for Empire, Dwarves, Brets and Wood Elves floating around too.

Could it be that they want to ride the wave of popularity for the Twilight movies series? There is always a popularity for the vampires.

If there is a Vampire new book, oh well, I guess it is not a big surprise. I would hope to see lots of female vampires, ghosts and ghouls to make me feel better ;)

Naturally, I would like a Wood Elf update, but I guess good things come to those who wait, eh? :D

*As for the Wood Elf book rumour, I heard something about September 2012. But who really knows about these things!*

But Twilight came out ages ago and the people who generally like it are not the people who like Vampire Counts (at least, I hope not. Seriously, vampires that sparkle and go to high school? What happened to Nosferatu and Dracula? Even the vampires in "Interview with a Vampire" were less lame than Twilight).

And whats all this drivel about getting Bloodlines back? What are pages 82 and 83 in the armybook for then? All they did was rename the powers and let players mix and match them. Strigoi is Ghoulkin and Infinite Hatred. Blood Dragon is all the Martialle powers.

If the Vamps are next, I hope that GW does something to prevent the continuation of the Grave Guard Deathstar at the very least. GG should be good, but they should not be the only way to play the army.

Hmm...good point about the Twilight Vampires. Not a big fan. Then again, I did enjoy the movie series Underworld with Kate Beckinsale...or perhaps it is the other way around... ;)

Oh, and yeah, I thought the current book had lots of blood thingymajig powers?

But yeah, I hope the Vampire players can get units that are ALL worth playing, so that they and their opponents can have a more exciting and varied game! Fingers crossed! :)

You know, while this is disappointing for a few armies that need an update badly (like Wood Elves or (Bretonnia?), I have to say overall I am not upset to see the VC get a new book. As long as GW stays away from the "Space Wolf/Blood Angel"-writes, I think the new book won't give this faction any more gaming power then in the last codex. It doesn't seem the new O&G or TK books gave those factions any increased power then in the last book (if anything it seems to brought them up to date and kept them balanced).

I also have to agree with Jus on the models being dated. I bet there will be some really nice Vampire models to give them a good centerpiece.

Also I'm not too worried about the "GG Deathstar". It is quiet tough, but beatable in my opinion. I think instead VC players need another path or two to be able guide their army builds. The current book I think just naturally leads to people playing with an army centered about the Vampire and a hard hitting unit surrounded by cheap (resurrect-able) targets. I agree with Koji on his point it would be nice to see some other units balanced nicely to allow greater variation.

Think the reson for these rumors is it is the week before halloween.

doubtful. These rumours were in circulation before october, and have been supported by more than one source, from Carpe Noctem and warseer. Furthermore, they say the stock of vampire counts starter boxes are disappearing from store shelves.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't really care, but I must admit I'm stoked about getting a new book. If the rumours end up being false then I'll be staked.

I'd like to see blood lines restrictions return. Its more authentic and maybe you'll start seeing more than just the usual cookie cutter vampire lords, that come in 2 flavors, killy or casty ( or half -half like yin yang rice.)

and yeah thats right, you guys on the money, more variation. MOAR.

So, hey are you using the driver? I was kicking around the idea of making an Undead Warband for Mordheim and he'd be the perfect Necromancer.
