Haven't seen the new one, although I do rate Idris Elba as an actor.
Idris Elba is indeed a superb actor, but he really seemed to just be in the new Trek for a paycheck more than anything else. His face is pretty much covered by prosthetics and make-up so you can't tell that it's him anyway. They could have cast anyone and had the same result.
As for Into Darkness, yes, I enjoyed it. Wrath of Khan was always my favourite among the original movies, it's probably the best of the lot if I'm honest. Ricardo Montalban's Khan was always going to be a hard act to follow, but Bending Cumbersome was good. As the story was different (New-Khan hadn't met New-Kirk previously), the 'Wrath' was definitely missing, but as far as reworking the original goes, they did a good job. The fan service scenes fit nicely into the story and they changed enough that it felt like something new rather than a remake.
And some useless trivia - Kirk and Khan don't have any face to face scenes at any point during Wrath of Khan.

I live! Qapla`( Kilngon)

Arigato ^^ yeah I got back into the horus heresy which in turn hooked me back into hobbying (painitng at least). hmmm dark angels next...maybe.

@Prim: And we shall know no fear! e.t.c. my ultramarines paint sheme (they are all the new paints)
-base Macragge blue (its quite dark)
-Altdorf guard blue - layer
-Alaitoc blue -blend
-Russ grey - highlights

the most important component of all is (my favorite) that's right, Lahmian medium applied to each layer for that lovely blend.

I love Bundilunck Cumberland, but he just didn't work well as Khan I reckon. I have a feeling that this is more to do with the directing though. BC has some serious acting chops on him, so I reckon he could've pulled off a more convincing Khan. I think he was told to play Khan as cold and calculating for the movie. To me Khan shouldn't be "cold".

Bendytoots!

*ahem*

Today I finished the base decoration on those hussars and cannons, and dug out a few units of Greeks and Persians that've been languishing unpainted for nigh on two years now.

@Spev - I liked the cold, calculating take on the character. We'll have to agree to disagree I guess. :D

I'm in the Philippines for work this week, which means I did get to visit Corregidor Island yesterday - very interesting and worth a visit for the WW2 history buffs.

I found a FLGS and managed to scoop up 3 Dust Tactics plastic bunkers reasonably cheaply. Too late for Overlord, but I'm sure they'll see use in future!

@Jus nicely painted for a UltraSmurf ;)

Put the Burning of Prospero Custodes together and put the main colors on them, also converted my Sigmarine to a custodes with the leftover parts.

The Sigmarine Custodes

And put the sisters of silence put together with a raging heroes miniature for size comparison. Oh and i put them on 25mm bases, 32 for them is way too big.

@J-R - Nice work, the Sigmarine blends in nicely. Is there a good selection of weapons/spare parts on the sprues?

Over the past couple of days, I have started reorganizing how things are packed away in my games room, throwing away old sprues and that sort of thing. I managed to sit down and watch the first 4 episodes of Luke Cage as well. It's not bad, I liked the little homage to his original comic costume. :)
For those who follow the Netflix/Marvel shows, Iron Fist is next up I believe and they are currently filming Defenders and Punisher in NYC. The second season of Jessica Jones is in pre-production as well. 2017 should be a good year. :D

I really enjoyed Luke Cage, watched the whole first season with my wife who surprisingly also really enjoyed it (she got quickly bored with Jessica Jones and Daredevil). The homage to his original costume was a great little touch!
I've just started on House of Cards season 3. What better time to watch a show about governmental corruption and an unethical heartless cold-blooded US President?
