Idris Elba is indeed a superb actor, but he really seemed to just be in the new Trek for a paycheck more than anything else. His face is pretty much covered by prosthetics and make-up so you can't tell that it's him anyway. They could have cast anyone and had the same result.me_in_japan wrote:@Prim - you liked ST: Into D? I must confess that despite really enjoying the first of the reboots, I found ST:ID rather dull in comparison. I particularly didnt care for BC's Khan. Just not macho enough. He plays a mighty fine calculating madman (whether good or bad) but he just doesnt do the raaaaaaahr that Khan needed. Haven't seen the new one, although I do rate Idris Elba as an actor.
As for Into Darkness, yes, I enjoyed it. Wrath of Khan was always my favourite among the original movies, it's probably the best of the lot if I'm honest. Ricardo Montalban's Khan was always going to be a hard act to follow, but Bending Cumbersome was good. As the story was different (New-Khan hadn't met New-Kirk previously), the 'Wrath' was definitely missing, but as far as reworking the original goes, they did a good job. The fan service scenes fit nicely into the story and they changed enough that it felt like something new rather than a remake.
And some useless trivia - Kirk and Khan don't have any face to face scenes at any point during Wrath of Khan.
