The new centaur thing would fit into a beastmen or wood elf force really well IMHO. Very bestial and wild. It would (aesthetically speaking) look horribly out of place in say an Orc or Ogre army.

I'm torn on the new Vampire mega-beasty. I like that on the one hand it's a warped and twisted horror, on the other it looks like two designers worked on two different models and GW said 'only room for one mini in this release,' and then glued them together at random. :D
I'm fairly confident we will see kitbashed conversions of a giant vampiress and a flying beast with a head just above those wings. It is something different and new which is cool in and of itself. The inhuman design is interesting, but it does look like it would have trouble flying.

I've already seen people photoshopping a Mourngul head on it in place of the vampire torso, and to be fair it looks cool! I guess my fundamental position is that I agree that it's generally better when they do cool mould-breaking stuff though.

(And tattered wings on Death fliers has been a Thing since as long as I can remember!)

I was actually thinking more along the lines of the odd position of the humanoid torso along with the plate armour. If it flies with it's body upright it will be as aerodynamic as a brick. If it flies with the body held out in front of it, it will be incredibly front heavy and won't be able to see where it is going.

I'll just imagine that it can't really fly and just manages long leaps instead. :D

Does anyone else think that the wolf-skin vamps were originally a Cursed City expansion?

Some nice stuff, there. Big fat opinions in 1..2..3....aaaand go!

centaur lord - very nice. Pretty much what Prim said. He's a lovely big hairy beastie, though. Rating : Thumbs up.

Vampire...thing? Again, what Prim said. It's two nice minis sploodged into one slightly wince-inducing mini. I hate when centauroid minis have wings in place of arms. Just makes no sense from either a physiological or aesthetic perspective. If it was even a proper centaur with wings where a pegasus would have them I'd've been happier. And saying "having wings where a pegasus would have them" as the benchmark for believable physiology is a really low bar... Rating: hand wavy from side to side.

Mega-hairy vamp - sure. I'm not sure it says "lord of the night" to me, but I guess there's room for hairy barbarian vampires in the world. I agree with Dave that exploring new spaces is to be applauded, even if sometimes it's a swing and a miss (and I'm not saying this is a miss. It's a very nice mini. I just don't see why it's so large. Surely just keeping it at regular humanoid size would be better? Not all army commanders need to be super jumbo mega sized (and clearly GW disagree with me on this.) Rating : cautious thumbs up.

painboy: It's an ork, innit? I do like his grafted on legs, though. That's a nice touch, as are the screws attaching the skin to the metal leggy bits. Rating: Thumbs up.

Overall, I think today's batch of minis are very worthy. Let's see what tomorrow brings...

Today's preview stream was 40K, and mostly Sisters.

The hand-to-hand Sisters whose halberd version we saw earlier also have a sword-and-board loadout:

And we get an actual High Lord of Terra in a warsuit:

(And for all that the design is... polarizing to say the least, I do like the inspired-by-realism "landmate" style look of the warsuits.)

Aside from that they showed a bunch of stuff we've seen: the standard bearer, the regular warsuits, the two new Lieutenant-ish characters, the Sisters semi-Predator, and some terrain and such.

I'm actually semi-interested in the terrain set:

because it could easily work for an industrial Titanicus board as well.

I'm really excited about that High Lord. Hope her rules are good enough to justify the effort of painting her, because I'll probably only play one game a year big enough to field her

Everything else looks great, and glad to have the full scope of the new wave of Sisters confirmed. It was starting to hit that Primaris/Lumineth level of "I love it but please stop".

OK, that is enough love for the 40k 'Joan of Arc' army. Yes, they are one of the most beautiful armies and yes I want to make a Fantasy army using many of the models for conversion pieces but other factions need new models. Maybe this is just a jealousy post...

It does seem that this was more of a recap than a preview. Hopefully the next 40K day will have more new stuff to show off. I think the new Orks are probably going to get previewed sometime soon.

Dangnabbit! A swing and a miss for the high lord. The basic idea of aristo-in-battlesuit is all good, but please, pleeeease GW, give these things some kind of enclosed cockpit? The poor woman is going to get her face burned off the first time she launches one of those rockets. And, y’know, bad guys are probably going to shoot at her at some point? No? In terms of gothic aesthetics it’s very nice - all robes and archways and fleur de lys and whatnot, but at some point (and it was inevitable, really) you hit the edge of believable, even for 40k, and this is it. Meh, it’s subjective, for sure, and I could understand if you loved the mini enough to overlook the practical problems with it, but for me this a thumbs down. So close, though. With a little bit more protection for the pilot it could’ve been awesome.
